Johnson Controls Awards Scholarship to OSU-Okmulgee Student
Through CareerConnect partnership, Johnson Controls donates HVAC resources to college

MILWAUKEE – (February 21, 2008) – Johnson Controls, Inc. (NYSE: JCI), the global, multi-industrial leader in creating smart environments, has named Jeff Hamon the 2008 CareerConnect scholarship recipient at Oklahoma State University - Okmulgee. Hamon will receive $900 to put toward education costs for his last two trimesters of OSU’s Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (ACR) Technology program.

In 2006, the college was selected to participate in CareerConnect, a collaborative program dedicated to training the next generation of HVAC technicians. Through CareerConnect, Johnson Controls donates resources to enhance partner school’s learning environment and HVAC program curriculum. In addition to scholarships, the company’s contributions also include instruction from industry experts and faculty training. The market value of the CareerConnect program to OSU-Okmulgee is more than $15,000.

The overall goal of CareerConnect is to increase the number of skilled HVAC graduates entering the workforce. An aging workforce and an increasing demand for cost-effective and efficient facilities all contribute to the growing need for HVAC program graduates. Specifically, employers in Oklahoma anticipate a 21 percent increase in demand for HVAC workers by the year 2014.

“We’re pleased that Johnson Controls has selected a student who possesses everything an employer would want: knowledge, dependability and accountability,” said Paul Margwarth, Instructor-Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology, OSU-Okmulgee.

Hamon is in his fifth of six trimesters at OSU-Okmulgee and will graduate in August 2008. He has exceeded the program’s recommended grade point average and is a student member of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the ACR club.
